- The Educational Differences Between
the Counseling Professionals
- Psychiatrist - Licensed Medical Doctor, Board Certified
- Licensed Psychologist - Doctor of Philosophy in Psychology
or Doctor of Psychology or Doctor of Education who has at least 1500 hours of supervised post doctoral practice and passed
the national exam
- Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist - Masters Degree -
2 years of supervised practice, passed the national exam
- Licensed Mental Health Counselor - Masters Degree - 3 years of supervised practice, passed
the national exam
- Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker - Masters Degree - 3 years of supervised
practice, passed the national exam
- Certified Psychoanalyst - certification is from a private psychanalytical society and
not the state. May be required to possess Masters degree or higher
- Registered Counselor - no educational requirements, no supervised practice requirement, no
examination requirement
- Do you accept insurance?
- I am a preferred provider for United Healthcare, FirstChoice, and Uniform Medical Plan.
- I am also contracted as an Employee Assistance Plan Provider
with APS, United Behavior Healthcare, Managed Health Network.
For insurance companies not listed, clients will be billed
directly, and can submit the statements for insurance reimbursement according to the provisions of their policies.
